The IRS should do our taxes for us, we don't need tax prep companies

In many other countries, the government does folks' taxes for them if they have simple returns. That’s called “return-free filing.” The IRS was granted the power to do this back in the 1990s, but has never acted on it.

If you have a simple return in the United States, the IRS already knows what it should look like.

So the IRS should follow other countries' lead and provide the option for the government to do our taxes for us.
