After nationwide protests against racism and police violence, supermarket chains Kroger and Albertsons made statements supporting racial justice.
So it’s shocking that these grocery goliaths are funding Proposition 20, a campaign in California to roll back criminal justice reforms.
No one should have to worry that they’re supporting mass incarceration when they’re buying milk and eggs.
Corporations shouldn’t be pouring money into ANY elections. And they definitely shouldn’t be funding efforts to undermine what little progress has been made against the U.S. imprisoning more of its population — disproportionately Black and Hispanic Americans — than any other country in the world.
Kroger and Albertsons must apologize, withdraw their support from Proposition 20, and demand the return of the $191,000 from the Proposition 20 campaign.
