Joe Biden’s just-formed inaugural committee is accepting donations of up to $500,000 from individuals and $1,000,000 from corporations.
This is a surprise and a mistake.
The practice of giving corporations and rich people the chance to curry favor with an incoming administration by funding lavish parties is one that should be ended anyway.
But it also doesn’t align with Biden’s commitment to restore the American people’s faith in government.
And with the coronavirus continuing to ravage the country, Biden’s inauguration likely won’t even bring the costly gatherings and galas that kick off a new presidency in normal times.
Accepting large donations from businesses and the wealthy for your inauguration does not align with your commitment to restore governmental ethics. Please reconsider.
