Back the RAC: Tell CPS Energy and City Leaders to Support the Rate Advisory Committee

For over two years, the all-volunteer CPS Energy Rate Advisory Committee (RAC) has represented the interest of ratepayers and residents. The RAC has provided valuable input to CPS Energy as it made some big decisions.

But the committee has been allowed to sunset, leaving its future up in the air.

CPS Energy is expected to make rate increase proposals in the next few years, with one expected in the next few months. Ratepayers and residents need an advocate at the utility, especially at this critical time when rate increases are on the horizon.

Tell the San Antonio City Council and CPS Energy: The RAC should be allowed to continue its advocacy for the people.

Subject: Please support the CPS Energy Rate Advisory Committee

Message:

I am writing to ask you to throw your support behind the CPS Energy Rate Advisory Committee (RAC). The all-volunteer committee has been a valuable resource for CPS Energy, but it was allowed to sunset earlier this summer. Now, as the utility moves to raise rates again, the continued work for the RAC on behalf of the committee is critically important. Here are just a few examples of the RAC's work since it was created more than two years ago: -- Provided important input on rates, rate structures, and the future of our power supply to management and the CPS Energy trustees -- Passed the newest and improved version of the CPS Energy Sustainable Tomorrow Energy Plan (STEP) with the backing of most RAC members. The new program will make community solar more accessible to those who previously could not afford it -- Participated in CPS Energy's resource planning process, resulting in a roadmap that will diversify the utility's generating portfolio and put an end to burning coal at the JK Spruce plant by 2028 As you know, the utility raised rates just last year and will propose another increase in the coming months. A third increase is expected to follow in the next few years. Ratepayers and everyone who lives and works in the CPS Energy service area will need the RAC to represent their interests. The people will always need and advocate. Please support the RAC and allow it to continue its important work.
