If you want to call both your senators and your representative, you’ll have to make a total of three calls. Tell them:
Hi, my name is ____ and I’m calling from (City, State).
I urge you to allow Americans to hold the gun industry accountable for its actions by co-sponsoring the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, which would repeal the broad legal protection currently enjoyed by the gun industry.
The industry’s near-immunity from liability makes all Americans less safe.
Thank you for your time.
Here’s why this bill is so important:
Over the past few decades, Congress and the courts have shielded numerous industries from liability--eliminating people’s ability to hold companies accountable when they cause harm. After intense lobbying from the gun industry, President George W. Bush in 2005 signed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. This law protects gun manufacturers and dealers from civil liability, even if they fail to take reasonable steps to ensure safe use of their products.
President Biden has said that if he could repeal just one gun law, it would be that one. The Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act would do just that.
Call your members of Congress today to tell them to support the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act.
