It was just three years ago that the late U.S. Sen. John McCain succeeded in putting rules in place to limit when, who and how former senior Pentagon officials could lobby.
The idea was to ensure that contracts are awarded to the best corporations, not those with the best connections.
Given the huge Pentagon budget and the deadly consequences of this industry, there are few areas where corporate lobbying is more troublesome than when lobbyists represent weapons manufacturers.
But now, lawmakers are considering relaxing the rules so former Pentagon officials can lobby their former colleagues on behalf of their new corporate employers.
That’s why we’re demanding that the U.S. Senate not cave to the Pentagon in repealing these rules.
