Subject: Improve and expand Medicare and lower prescription drug prices in budget resolution

Message:

Dear Senator: As the Senate crafts its upcoming budget resolution, as your constituent, I urge you to seize this opportunity to deliver on top health care priorities that would improve the lives of millions. Nearly three-in-ten Americans report rationing treatment and tens of millions continue to go without health care because they are either uninsured or cannot afford to use the insurance they have. That’s why, in poll after poll, the vast majority of Americans, regardless of party, say that lowering prescription drug prices and improving health care is a top priority for their families. I urge you to push to include provisions that empower Medicare to negotiate drug prices for all Americans, to improve Medicare benefits to include dental, vision, hearing, cap out-of-pocket costs, and to expand Medicare by lowering the eligibility age. Specifically, please push committee leadership who are crafting the budget resolution to include these provisions: 1. Expand Medicare benefits to include coverage of essential services such as hearing, dental, and vision and include an out-of-pocket cap for beneficiaries. 2. Lower the Medicare age of eligibility to at least 60 and cap out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries. 3. Build from Chairman Wyden’s principles for drug pricing reform by ensuring these critical provisions are included in the final bill package: (1) Allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, limit high launch prices, and impose restrictions on increasing prices. (2) Ensure low cost prescription drugs are available to everyone, including the uninsured. (3) Cap the price of prescription drugs in the U.S. to the average price in peer countries. (4) Include strong inflation protections and negotiation enforcement, like tax penalties. Republicans and Democrats alike are struggling under the crippling costs of prescription drugs and health care. Now is the time to deliver the real relief our families need in legislation that will be considered in the coming weeks. I look forward to hearing from you.
