The House of Representatives is considering two bills that will determine our government’s ability to rein in corporations and protect the public.

The Stop Corporate Capture Act (H.R. 1507) is a major progressive bill that would limit attempts by corporations and their lobbyists to undermine new safety and health protections.

But the REINS Act (H.R. 277) would take us in the wrong direction and effectively give Congress a veto on major new health and safety, financial, and pro-worker safeguards.

We need to reach as many representatives as we can and urge them to support safeguards to protect us from corporations!

I’m writing to urge you to protect the American people from corporations that are out of control. From the tragic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, to the recent major bank collapse, it’s clear that trusting corporations to police themselves is dangerous. The Stop Corporate Capture Act (H.R. 1507) is exactly what we need to stop corporations and their lobbyists from undermining critical health and safety protections. I encourage you to co-sponsor this groundbreaking legislation and do whatever you can to build support among your colleagues. At the same time, I’m concerned that Congress might go in the wrong direction and support a radical and dangerous bill. The REINS Act (H.R. 277) would impose the unrealistic requirement that Congress must approve every major federal rule before it can be enforced. I’m worried that, since you have so much on your plate already, this would only act as a roadblock and prevent important new public health and safety safeguards, financial reforms, and worker protections from taking effect. Please support the Stop Corporate Capture Act, not the REINS Act, to protect the American people. Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
