Hello, I’m reaching out because I’m concerned about internet voting. Right now, our elections are secure and I’m confident in election results. The last thing we need is for anything to compromise election security or the trust voters have in our elections. While wealthy organizations or self-interested internet voting groups will try to sell you on their new products, experts agree that internet voting is currently not secure. A University of Michigan professor and his students were able to hack a DC internet voting pilot program and elect a cartoon character in 2010. An Australian internet voting system had to be dismantled last year after it routinely crashed on Election Day leaving around 34,000 voters unable to cast their ballot. And these are just two examples: With no paper ballot to recount, it’s difficult to fix problems or even detect they occurred in the first place. Hackers could hold elections for ransom or change votes, reducing trust in our elections and destabilizing our democracy. Thank you for not implementing internet voting so far. I hope you remain skeptical and oppose any plans to implement internet voting in the future. Thank you for your time.
