Amazon shareholders have the opportunity to force the company to be more transparent at the May 25 shareholder meeting.
But they’re up against one of the largest corporations in the world, and they need to know that they have the public’s support!
Sign our petition to tell shareholders: Make Amazon disclose its tax avoidance schemes and lobbying spending.
(Remember: Amazon’s shareholder meeting is next week. If you’re a shareholder, vote in favor of Proposal #12 on Tax Transparency and Proposal #14 on Additional Reporting on Lobbying.)
At the May 25th Amazon shareholders meeting, I urge all Amazon shareholders to vote in favor of Shareholder Proposal #12: Tax Transparency and Shareholder Proposal #14 :Additional Reporting on Lobbying.
These resolutions will 1) require Amazon to make public disclosures about the taxes it pays in every country around the world, as well as the revenues, profits, and key metrics of operation for Amazon in every jurisdiction where it books income and 2) make its lobbying expenditures transparent.
Such information will enable shareholders and the public at large to identify the extent to which Amazon shifts profits offshore from America or games tax loopholes in the U.S. in order to avoid paying its fair share of taxes, as well as if it lobbies to keep corporate-friendly laws on the books that allow it to do things like avoid paying taxes and harm workers’ rights.
