CPS Energy is a city-owned utility, but it likes to operate like an independent business. Even investor-owned utilities – which are businesses – are subject to oversight, and customers get a say in aspects of how they operate and the rates customers pay. It’s up to the San Antonio City Council to give the people of San Antonio that opportunity.
We’re calling on the City Council to create a CPS Energy Rate and Resource Advisory Committee, as the CPS Energy Board of Trustees voted in March to support. This committee should be empowered to request data from the utility, gather input from the community and make recommendations to the City Council.

Thank you for emailing the San Antonio City Council to support creating a new citizen rate and resource advisory committee for CPS Energy. This is an important first step to bring more transparency to the utility and ensure that community voices are heard on important issues related to the fairness of electricity rates and which sources of energy the utility uses.
You can have even more impact by calling council members. Start with calling the member that represents you, but feel free to call them all. It can be as simple as: "My name is __________ and I'm calling to ask that you create a citizen committee to advise council on CPS Energy rates and energy choices."
